An unarmed black man fatally shot by police in a San Diego on Tuesday. He had suffered from a mental breakdown over the recent death of a friend, his family said Thursday. Police said Olango took an item out of his pocket and pointed it at an officer who then shot him. But it turned out that the man only pointed a vape smoking device, police said. The family and attorneys at the press conference Thursday called for police to release cell phone video showing the deadly encounter.
Federal officials tried twice to deport Alfred Olango, a 38-year-old man who was shot by police in Southern California on Tuesday. But, his native country of Uganda refused to take him back, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
