Education according to a popular cliché 'is the tool and foundation for any developed society', but this statement in Nigeria societal setting, is now in a state of trite.
The state of Education in Nigeria is nothing to write home about. As good as Education is, it has been mudslided...It is supposed to be the greatest force that should be used to bring about change. When we say 'force', we really mean 'force!'...hmmn, but how can that be 'when we expect those that have the lowest scores in JAMB to go to Colleges Of Education? As if that is not enough; you go to different Universities, you see that those that had the lowest grades in their remedials studies and final exams are pushed to 'Faculty Of Education' as against their wishes. These so-called trained teachers graduate after they might have manoeuvred their ways in every ways they could in their various Institutions...they come into the labour market, are being applied as 'teachers' and even if possible as 'lecturers'...What do you expect them to teach?
Even our present-day lecturers, be they PhD holders or even Professors whom one would have confide in a little; what most of them teach are outdated: they don't update the schools syllabuses talkless of their own notes...
"Teaching profession which is supposed to be of high class, the classics and even classical", is now being regarded as last option profession.
WHAT A SHAME!
Yoruba people says; Olorun oni je kope koto ye wa...Translated:
May it not be too late before our eyes are opened.
